Teachers are not just educators but mentors, guides, and role models who profoundly impact students’ lives. For many teachers, the educator profession feels more like a calling, a strong internal motivation to work to have a positive and lasting impact on students’ lives. Not all teachers understand that calling until life allows them to experience the impact potential.

The truth is that every single day is the day for teacher appreciation. After all, every other job is made possible, in part, by a teacher. So, yes, we should always be thankful for our amazing Mississippi teachers.

Today, let’s begin by thanking one family that truly is filled with teachers: Jeff and Lisa Tally have literally spent a lifetime teaching and loving on the students of Mooreville, Mississippi. 

Every year for as long as I can recall, the iconic, world-renown Mississippi pottery studio located in the tiny town of Merigold, Mississippi hosts its long-awaited McCarty’s Seconds Sale – and this year’s sales event, held on Monday, April 28, was unprecedented in attendance, temperature – and fun.

On Tuesday, April 22, the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) and Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) announced the high school winners of this year’s prestigious Miss Softball and Mr. Baseball. Presented by C spire, 14 recipients, one female and one male athlete from each of the seven MHSAA classifications, were recognized for distinct excellence in their sport. 

 We all know those small businesses we can’t live without – the bakery that serves the best pastries, the family-owned hardware store with the perfect tool for every job, or the quirky bookshop where you always find a hidden literary treasure. These are the kinds of places customers will drive considerable distances to visit, even if they’ve since moved far from the area. 

Season 23 of American Idol featured two Mississippi contestants, Jamal Roberts of Meridian and Lillie Z. Rhoden of Stonewall, earning golden tickets that advanced them to Hollywood. Jamal Roberts is a schoolteacher who sang “Her Heart” by Anthony Hamilton. Lillie Z. Rhoden also impressed two judges and earned her way to Hollywood by singing a cover of Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell.”

Easter in Mississippi isn’t just about chocolate bunnies and colorful eggs. Rather, it’s a season wrapped in tradition, faith, and Southern hospitality. From small-town churches to family kitchens, these customs continue to bring Mississippi communities together. As always, in the Magnolia State, we have our own unique twists to celebrating Easter. Here are five Easter traditions that make this holiday special in Mississippi .
