Five Mississippi Labor Day Destinations to Consider

Labor Day is right around the corner, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that a break is very much needed. Thankfully, you can spend your Labor Day weekend exploring one (or more) of the greatest destinations Mississippi has to offer. Here are the top five destinations I’d recommend.

    Biloxi

This coastal city screams “Labor Day fun.” Biloxi is loaded with many forms of entertainment— take your pick! Do you want to scroll the beach? Grab a bite to eat? Go shopping? Sight see? The options are endless. The ball’s in your court. Perhaps, the seashell’s on your beach.

    Hattiesburg

I’ve frequented Hattiesburg since I was a child, and I live here now. One thing I can truly say is that there’s always something to do here. Look up local events, and you’ll see a bevy of activities to get into. This Labor Day weekend, there will be a tennis mixer hosted by the Racquet Club of Hattiesburg from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Whether you’re an expert like Serena Williams or Roger Federer, a beginner, or somewhere in between, you’ll want to make sure you attend this event. Prices for tickets are 10.00 for members and 20.00 for non-members. Prices include food and drinks.

    Edwards

Located between Jackson and Vicksburg is a quaint city called Edwards. This Labor Day weekend, the Askew’s Landing RV Campground is hosting their “Less Work, S’more Camping” weekend. Starting August 30th through September 2, you can enjoy s’mores and a weekend of carefree bliss. Make sure to pack your tents, bring your RVs, or rent one of the “glamping” (a fun word comprised of the words camping and glam) cabins to experience one of the best weekends ever! Ocean Springs

Ocean Springs is another coastal city that offers a variety of activities to explore. This Labor Day weekend, the city will have its Ocean Springs Art Walk. It will take place in the downtown area and will last from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Additionally, if you’re a music lover (or not), there will be a live concert that is free to the public. Located in Rosetti Park, this concert will feature music from Blackwater Brass, Amanda Shaw, and Flow Tribe. Make sure to pack extra water before heading to the concert— you’ll be sure to sing your lungs out!

    Starkville

Starkville. Land of the Mississippi State University Bulldogs. Now, I have an overt bias against MSU and Starkville, as an Ole Miss fan; however, there is no denying that Starkville is an incredible college town. Besides being second best to Oxford (relax, I’m only partially kidding here), if you’d like to spend your Labor Day weekend exploring historic sites, you’ll want to make a trip to Starkville this weekend. From the antebellum homes to beautiful historic districts, Starkville is packed with a rich history.

    Travel Mississippi

Labor Day weekend is the perfect time to rest and reset. What better way to spend Labor Day weekend than by exploring the many gems in our state. Where do you enjoy visiting for Labor Day? What is one city you’d add to this list and why? Let’s get the conversation going in the comments section of Our Mississippi Home’s Facebook page!
