What is it like living in Mississippi? Explore where we live, work, and play!

One of the most common misconceptions about Mississippi is that there is very little to do here. Perhaps, our familiarity with this incredible state has caused us to be a bit blinded by how much we actually have to partake in here. No matter if it’s a seasonal event or a place you can frequent year round, Mississippi is full of different areas to explore. Here are some highlights of the state to add to your bucket list— Mississippi style!

Yep, we Mississippians love us some mud – maybe because our lives are so entwined with the muddy Mississippi River and all its tributaries that flow through our state.

Alas. Fall is whispering to us, letting us know that it has arrived. Some of us thought the weather was cooling down a bit, but in truly, early autumn, Mississippi nature, the coolness was temporary — only set aside for mornings and evenings.

Football season is in full force.

That means tailgaters from around the Magnolia State are gathering each week to cheer on their favorite team with friends and family, mouthwatering food, ice-cold drinks, opened hatchbacks, and lowered truck tailgates.

Now that the weather is slowly (but surely) cooling down, hiking sounds like a brilliant idea. It’s now time to take full advantage of enjoying nature without worrying about overheating. Mississippi has quite a few trails to wander around, throughout the state. Here are five trails that you can visit this fall.

Last week, I shared about growing up on the front porch of my grandfather’s grist mill and forge in Chickasaw County, Mississippi. My childhood memories truly are an amazing gift from God. So much so, that I often wonder if the memories our grandchildren are currently making here in the great state of Mississippi will be equally joyful and amazing.

Alas, the temperature is finally starting to drop, ever so slightly. A few leaves have fallen from the trees, and the mornings have become a bit cooler. Fall is on the way— a beautiful contrast to the scorching summer we endured this year.

More communities in Mississippi are becoming health conscious and looking at ways to support the health of their residents. They increase walkability with sidewalks and bike lanes or embrace wellness amenities like group fitness, fitness centers, and healthy food options. Residents can be encouraged to explore local nature with designated walking trails. Community gardening can also enhance community engagement and improve health. The Belhaven Heights community hopes to bridge several of these to enhance the greater Jackson community’s health and engagement with a new outdoor fitness center.
