    D’Cracked Egg: Tupelo Breakfast Hotspot

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

My youngest son wholeheartedly agreed with this timeless adage and often used his grades as a bargaining chip (maybe even a blackmail tool, at times) to garner a good breakfast each morning before school.

“My brain just functions better with biscuits, gravy, and sausage,” he slyly assured me.

    paw paw

His life-long logic was sound though; a great breakfast seems to pave the way for a great day. And the Lucius family knows the perfect place to find both: D’Cracked Egg in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Owned and operated by Mr. Gary L. Griffin, Sr., the friendly staff at D’Cracked Egg offers customers the quintessential Southern breakfast experience.

Of course, no real Mississippi breakfast is complete without eggs, biscuits, gravy, and some bacon or sausage. But D’Cracked Egg goes way beyond the standard morning fare, offering various renditions of pancakes, waffles and chicken, omelets, and French toast, as well as breakfast burritos and sandwiches.

But that’s just skimming the surface of D’Cracked Egg’s menu. “D’Shareables” help make this Downtown Tupelo breakfast experience unique: Fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, and loaded tater tots are just a few of these shareable options.

The full menu at D’Cracked Egg also offers some great lunch items and desserts. In fact, Mr. Griffin says that all the hamburger options are absolutely wonderful – one of his favorite personal choices.

On a recent visit to D’Cracked Egg, I visited with Mr. Griffin and learned that in September 2019, he opened the restaurant in Tupelo because the city’s downtown area had no breakfast spots at the time. But his main objective in opening the restaurant was to share his love of food and his love of meeting people.

That love of meeting people is Griffin’s favorite part of his business, and it shows in his genuine hospitality. He and his staff try to make everyone feel at home the minute they walk through the door. That objective of hospitality is coupled with Griffin’s desire to offer customers top-notch food and service in an environment of love and respect.

From my perspective (seated on a stool devouring my biscuits and gravy while laughing and chatting with other customers and staff), D’Cracked Egg has achieved those goals and more.

So, when you get a chance, drop by D’Cracked Egg and enjoy a great breakfast. It will undoubtedly be the start of a great day.
