Your pumpkins have been carved, and it’s time for them to go, or perhaps you would like to get a head start on decorating for the holidays. Either way, here are some safe and fun ways to dispose of your pumpkins, other than punkin’ chunkin’—although that’s fun, too.

Mississippi State representatives, Starkville Habitat for Humanity officials, student volunteers and community members gathered off 16th Section Road in rural Oktibbeha County with Hubbard and her family Friday to break ground at the site that will become home for her and her brother, R.D. Coleman. Hubbard, who cares for her sibling, is a Starkville High School cafeteria worker of almost two decades, and her home is the 75th constructed in Oktibbeha County by the local Habitat chapter since 1986.

French pot au feu and cassslutte come to mind as well, but perhaps the best example is French onion soup. When there is no stew meat to be had, nor a tough old chicken, a few onions, a left over bone to make stock from, can be turned into a wonderful, hearty soup, French onion soup. This soup dates from medieval times, but the modern version seems to have first been made in the mid-19th century.

The Halloween season is about to get a lot more spooky, frightfully fabulous, and fun this weekend on the Gulf Coast as the city of Ocean Springs will be overtaken by a bevy of merry-making witches and warlocks. On Oct. 28, the Witches Ride of Ocean Springs will roll through the downtown district, bringing plenty of excitement and Halloween fun you do not want to miss.

The month of November officially kicks off the Holiday Season. This time of year is highlighted with parties, social gatherings, and family events. While these activities are joyful and packed with lasting memories, they can often be dampened with the stress of all the hustle and bustle.

The first Saturday in November means one thing to our family: The Vardaman Sweet Potato Festival.

If you have never been to Vardaman, Mississippi, or attended this festival, then you are in for a treat. I may be a bit prejudiced since I am from Vardaman, but the Sweet Potato Capital of the World is home to the sweetest, most cordial people of the world as well.
