Innovative entrepreneurial ideas are being “hatched” on a daily basis at a unique Inspiration Lab within the College of Business and Economic Development at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM).

Dubbed “The Hatchery,” this extraordinary space serves as a hub to help align and connect the wealth of entrepreneurship-related resources, knowledge, and vision at the University.

“Can we go to the punkin patch?” 

I can remember my kids asking that question about this time every year. All it took was a couple of cool, crisp mornings on our ride to school, and they inevitably thought about a trip to our local pumpkin farm.

Over the years I have written countless stories about gumbo, perhaps the most emblematic dish to come from this part of the world.  It is composed of ingredients that represent many of the peoples who traveled through the Gulf South, some staying and some moving on.

Mississippi State University is one of only 11 universities and colleges across the U.S. that are part of a new national initiative, Transforming the Foundational Postsecondary Experience. The institutions are taking on the challenge of redesigning the first two years of college so every student can graduate.
