The pair of catholic schools in the “Southern Six” still laive in the state baseball playoffs each got off to successful starts in the South State semifinal round in their respective clasifications Tuesday night with each picking up home wins.
Defending Class 1A state champion Resurrection dispatched Enterprise Lincoln 6-2, while St. Stanislaus whitewashed Seminary 9-0.
In Pascagoula, the Eagles, who are aiming for their third straight trip to the Class 1A state finas, jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after two innings and held on for the win.
Resurrection plated two runs apiece in both the first and second stanzas, and then when Enterprise tallied its first run in the top of the fourth RCS came back with its final run to make it 5-1 after four frames.

Jesus San Miguel played a key role in several different capacities for RCS in the win, as he drove in three runs at the plate with a double and a pop out and he also came in with one out and the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and earned a save on the hill for the Eagles.
Cole Tingle had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in a run for RCS while Walker Frederic also added two hits and had a double as well. Nicholas Watts drove in the other run for the Eagles.
Levi Foshee started for RCS and went just over five frames to pick up the win, allowing seven hits and both runs and striking out three. Shug Reynolds relieved Foshee, and ran into a bit of a pickle in the top the seventh due to three walks. San Miguel came in and induced the final YellowJackets batter to bounce into a game-ending double play to wrap up the win.
Game two is set for Friday night just outside of Brookhaven.

Meanwhile, in Bay St. Louis Tuesday night, home-standing St. Stanislaus won its fifth straight game in the Class 3A South State playoffs with that 9-0 win over Seminary. It marked the third meeting of the season between the Region 8-3A foes, as the squads split a pair of regular season meetings.
Rock-A-Chaw pitcher Hill Gainey made sure that SSC would take game one of this all-important poseason match-up, as he hurled almost seven full innings of shutout baseball before giving way to Jeremy Mares for the final out. Gainey struck out seven and scattered just three hits in picking up the win with the strong outing for SSC.

Chesley Rhodes wielded the big stick at the plate for the Rocks, as he collected a game-high three hits including a monster two-run home run and he also drove in a game-high three runs in the winning effort. Hugh LeMasters added a two-run double for SSC, and Tate Murphy had a double also. Seth Farni, Kyle Stegall, Wiley Mossy and Mares also drove in a run each for the Rocks.
Game two is set for Seminary Friday night.
