There is no doubt that Mississippi has greatly influenced the nation and the world as a collective. From athletes to talk show hosts, Mississippi has left its footprint in nearly every sector of the world. One of the ways the Magnolia State has been most influential is in the realm of music. From country, to rock and roll, to classical and every genre in between, Mississippians have solidified themselves as masters of music. 

Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., known as Snoop Dogg, was born in Long Beach, California, in 1971. However, his family’s roots run deep in Mississippi. His father, Vernell Vernado, hails from Magnolia, MS, and his mother, Beverly Tate, was born in McComb.

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) will host the 18th annual Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T) 2024 showing on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) in Ocean Springs, Miss. Doors open at 2 p.m. The viewing showcases spectacular fly fishing films from across the globe with an aim to support conservation efforts and community support.
