There’s a party on the river this Saturday, September 28, at the Tallahatchie RiverFest in New Albany, Mississippi.

If you have never attended this annual festival, you are in for a day filled with food, fun, and the kind of friendly fellowship that’s only found in Mississippi. In fact, this event uniquely captures the essence of the region’s rich heritage as well as its inclusive spirit of community. And that welcoming spirit of hospitality flows as strongly through New Albany as does the beautiful river for which the Riverfest is named.

Spearheaded by the New Albany Main Street Association, the 2024 RiverFest has something to offer everyone. Beginning at 9a.m. and running through 11p.m., festival activities will take place downtown, from the Park Along the River onward throughout the city.

Vendors will display their wares up and down the “center line” of Bankhead Street at the Riverfest Marketplace. There, visitors can stroll along the market and view the works of artists and craftsmen from throughout the Tallahatchie River region, while also enjoying a variety of delicious foods. And keep an eye out for the food truck vendors as well. Honestly, the food at Riverfest never disappoints!

There will also be a variety of demonstrations and workshops featured at various points throughout the city. Checkout the Tallahatchie RiverFest Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558780841470 for details on literary events, kickboxing demos, a Case knife show, and more.

Of course, Kids Zone will be the favorite spot for your children and grandchildren. It will feature active fun and games, with inflatables, a mini obstacle course, and a giant slide. Don’t miss out on the foam dance party, the petting zoo, horse rides, a magic show, and the Rubber Duck Regatta.

Hosted by The Rotary Club of New Albany, the 2024 Rubber Duck Regatta takes place at noon on the park bridge over the river. This beloved tradition is truly a highlight of the RiverFest each year, as spectators view and cheer for the sponsored rubber ducks racing down the Tallahatchie River toward the bridge to win amazing prizes. Rumor has it that this is the most “quacktacular” event of the festival!

Also, make sure to participate in the NatureFest from 11a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring hands-on activities like building a birdhouse and tying fishing flies. Kids and parents alike will enjoy learning about local plants and animals from participating vendors and educators.

And get ready to enjoy some of Mississippi’s finest musical artists at the RiverFest Stage, including Shameless All-Star Country Band, Spunk Monkees, and festival headliner, Lonestar. Go to visitnewalbany.com/tallahatchie-riverfest for details.

Yep, there’s going to be good food, great music, and loads of activities and fun in New Albany this Saturday at the 2024 Tallahatchie RiverFest. So, head on over to the river!
