Members of the Ocean Springs School District Cabinet provided breakfast on August 24 for their bus drivers, other transportation department employees, and members of the OSSD Police Department to say thanks for the job they do every day.
“Our bus drivers hold this incredibly important responsibility of transporting every parent’s child to and from school each day,” says Brooks McKay, director of operations for OSSD. “Not everyone is cut out for this task, and we are thankful for our drivers who choose to do this every school day.”
There are also other employees who work in the background of the district’s transportation department. One example is Jay Brown, who was recently hired as the head mechanic in the OSSD Operations Department.
While transportation employees work to safely move students to and from school, members of the OSSD Police Department work daily to provide the safest possible learning environment for students, staff and teachers.
“Members of our police department have to have a heart for students,” says Jesse Galloway, OSSD Police Department. “For us to perform our duties effectively, we have to really get to know and understand our students.”
The Ocean Springs School District Superintendent Bonita Coleman, Ph.D., says an important aspect of leadership is helping those through service. “We could not accomplish all that we do as a district without the men and some in our transportation and police department,” said Coleman. “We wanted to let them know how much we appreciate them by thanking them with a good breakfast.”
