Finally, the rain and cold, gloomy air are gone, and the sun is shining pretty bright in Belhaven District. The sound of laughter from children at play is a wonderful sound.

What is there to do in the small area near Belhaven University? With so many activities and events to do each day of the week, Belhaven District is the place to be. It’s not just a place to visit; it’s a community where everyone, from students to workers to tourists, comes to connect and meet new people. The welcoming atmosphere, diverse foods, and unique shops all contribute to a sense of belonging that invites everyone to come back again.
First, let’s get something cold to drink….something bubbly and golden. We stop at Fertile Ground, a lounge where you can enjoy a sip inside at the bar or outside on the patio. The thick green grass and picnic tables make you feel right at home. In this welcoming atmosphere, there’s nothing more than enjoying a few drinks with friends after getting off work or taking a break from your daily routines.

“This is the only time I can relax and enjoy myself.” bartender Matthew Mckinley said. His favorite thing to do is to serve people beverages in ways to connect and enjoy the welcoming company all around. He even says Fertile Grounds is not just a bar and lounge; it also offers game night events, such as Harry Potter Trivia. Fertile Ground has been in business for three years, and the co-owner’s name is Conner Reeves.

Right across is the savory, garlicky smell of Wing Mouth, a new food joint just five months into its business. The owner’s name is George. An employee named Ty says the best part about working at Wing Mouth is the customers and atmosphere. It always draws a crowd with its unique and creative flavors, like the tantalizing Cherry Harbnerry and the satisfying chicken tenders.

Lastly, locals and visitors love to grab something sweet after their meal. Mayday ice cream will always be an all-time favorite in the Belhaven District. Owned by William and Anna Fair, choosing between flavors such as Cookie Crush or the salty and sweet taste of caramel ice cream is definitely a delicious challenge. Talk about an all-time sugar rush. Mayday attracts all ages, from its colorful designs to the sweet smells of different ice cream.

The atmosphere brings people together in the small, quaint neighborhood of Belhaven.
