OCEAN SPRINGS—While it is beginning to look at feel a lot like Christmas, it is also time to think about registering children for the 2026 summer camps in coastal Mississippi. Who knows? Maybe summer camp tuition is a great gift!
The Marine Education Center (MEC) in Ocean Springs run by the University of Southern Mississippi has already begun promoting its summer camps and has opened registration for enrollment. Staff said that spots fill quickly, so it is important to act quickly.
“The Marine Education Center offers a wide range of summer camps for students of all ages,” said Lacy Lindsey who is the Marine Education Project Manager and Informal Education. “Sea Camp, a coastal tradition for nearly 40 years, introduces young learners to the Mississippi Sound through yearly themes that encourage curiosity and inquiry-driven learning.”
Sea Camp’s theme for this year is Codename: Conservation, sends campers on “secret missions” to protect endangered species and the habitats they need!
“These immersive experiences are perfect for students who love exploring the natural world or dream of becoming marine scientists,” Lacy added. “Each summer, our goal is to make these opportunities accessible to as many families as possible, continuing a legacy of education and environmental stewardship along the Gulf Coast!”
Billed best for youth who love the ocean and want a first-hand exploration, the MEC is offering campus filled with adventure, discovery and real marine science to include island hopping, shark tagging, beach sampling and underwater robotics.
Camps are organized by grade level and content, and space is limited in each camp. This year’s camps include Sea Camp for rising 1st through 6th graders, Sharkheads Sharkfest for rising 7th through 12th graders, Angler Camp for rising 7th through 12th graders, Sea Tech for rising 9th through 12th graders, and Island Adventure Camp for rising 6th through 12th graders.
Lacy said that camps at the MEC have become a generational tradition, inspiring many alumni to pursue careers in marine science or to carry a lifelong appreciation for coastal ecosystems.
Camps begin June 8, 2026, and continue weekly through July 24. Camp tuition differs per camp depending on the activities and materials needed. To register or for more information, click HERE and choose the camp that is the best fit for your future marine scientist and environmentalist.
