The community is invited to experience the extraordinary musical talent of The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Music during two special concert evenings this February. In celebration of the school’s ongoing excellence and as part of the National Association of Schools of Music accreditation site visit, both concerts are free and open to the public.

“These concerts are a wonderful chance for the public to hear the remarkable artistry and dedication of our students — young musicians who represent the best of Southern Miss on stages both at home and around the world,” said Dr. Colin McKenzie, director of the School of Music. “We are proud of their achievements and excited to share their performances with the community.”

    Student Music Showcase

Showcasing the stellar and varied talents of Southern Miss School of Music students, this hour-long performance features both undergraduate and graduate student musicians. As part of the National Association of Schools of Music accreditation visit, the public is encouraged to attend this special evening of music — an inspiring testament to the depth and diversity of talent nurtured within the school.

    Ensemble Music Showcase
Tuesday, February 3 at 7:30 p.m. | Mannoni Performing Arts Center

This incredible concert highlights the premier performing ensembles of the School of Music in one dynamic showcase. Audiences will enjoy a sampler of performances from the Southern Miss Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Southern Chorale, Jazz Area and additional larger studio ensembles. From symphonic masterpieces to vibrant jazz and choral works, the evening offers a panoramic view of the school’s top ensembles.

The Southern Miss School of Music has built a national and international reputation for musical excellence, offering students opportunities to perform alongside distinguished faculty, guest artists and peers in a wide range of ensemble settings while also training the next generation of educators.

With more than 25 ensembles and presenting more than 300 performances annually, the school delivers exceptional musical experiences across genres — from classical and jazz to wind band, choral, opera and more.

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) is a comprehensive public research institution delivering transformative programs on campuses in Hattiesburg and Long Beach, at teaching and research sites in central and southern Mississippi, as well as online. Founded in 1910, USM is one of only 130 universities in the nation to earn the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education’s "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity” designation, and its robust research enterprise includes experts in ocean science and engineering, polymer science and engineering, and sport venue safety and security, among others. USM is also one of only 40 institutions in the nation accredited in theatre, art and design, dance and music. As an economic driver, USM generates an annual economic impact of more than $600 million across the state. USM welcomes a diverse student body of approximately 15,000, representing 71 countries, all 50 states, and every county in Mississippi. USM students have collected four Truman Scholarships and 36 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships, while also leading Mississippi with 24 Goldwater Scholarships, an honor that recognizes the next generation of great research scientists. Home to the Golden Eagles, USM competes in 17 Division I sports sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). For more information, visit usm.edu.
