Three childhood friends recently reconnected and created MSMade, a beautiful, handmade, jewelry line.
Gabrielle Gunter Cooper of Tupelo reconnected with her friend Dr. Teresa Moore Mendenhall when Gabrielle’s mother became quite sick. After losing her mother, Teresa asked if she’d like to go to Georgia and take a week-long wire jewelry class. Gabrielle jumped at the chance to spend time with her dear friend and have some fun while learning a new skill.
In 2018, this duo became a trio when their other lifelong friend Julianne Battle Goodwin joined them for another wirette jewelry course in Georgia. On the way back to Mississippi, they jokingly talked about how they should start a business. Gabrielle said, “By the time we got home, we had opened a checking account and gotten a tax ID number.”
MSMade is a local business by three Mississippi women, who all happen to be Ole Miss alumni. They’ve been friends since childhood and are now empty-nesters, and two of them are retired—technically. Located in Tupelo and Ridgeland, they love to get together and brainstorm new pieces of jewelry while creating some of their most loved works, such as “Tupelo Honey,” “Magnolia,” “Cotton,” and “Mighty MS.”
Their jewelry is made of sterling silver, 14k gold filled materials, and Swarovski crystals. Since no two are alike, each piece is unique and named after a town or characteristic of Mississippi.
MSMade jewelry has become quite popular for locals and tourists alike! People who travel here want something lovely and unique that represents Mississippi. While locals take pride in the Magnolia State and want to wear a beautiful symbol of who they are and where they come from.
“We strive to create classic, timeless pieces that can be cherished for years to come,” Cooper continued.
MSMade can also be found in several stores and boutiques throughout the state, including Tupelo, Natchez, Petal, Laurel, and Jackson. They are also sold in Memphis and online through mymsmade.com. You can also follow them on Instagram and Facebook.
These lifelong friends have built a beautiful business that reconnected them while also driving their passion for giving back to local Mississippi organizations each year.
MSMade is a beautiful representation of Mississippi, combining something lovely with intent and the utmost hospitality.
