Cory McGee of Pass Christian is heading to Tokyo after running a 4:00.67 in the 1,500 meters finals at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials on Monday evening.
McGee, who holds the University of Florida’s school record in the 1,500 meters, finished second in the race, respectively, behind Purrier St. Pierre (3:58.03). To round out the top three, all of whom garnered spots in this year’s Olympic Games, was Heather MacLean (4:02.09). It’s the first Olympics for all three of them.
Here’s a video from the wire-to-wire race:
During her time at Pass Christian High School, McGee was a 22-time state champion. While at Florida (C’13), she was selected as an All-American a whopping 10 times.
The Tokyo Games, which were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, are scheduled to open on July 23.
