On Tuesday, April 22, the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) and Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) announced the high school winners of this year’s prestigious Miss Softball and Mr. Baseball. Presented by C spire, 14 recipients, one female and one male athlete from each of the seven MHSAA classifications, were recognized for distinct excellence in their sport.
The 2025 Miss Softball winners, by high school (HS) classification are:
1A – Madilyn Graham, Stringer HS
2A – Lucy Cochran, East Union HS
3A – Olivia Garrett, Booneville HS
4A – Layla Owens, Itawamba AHS
5A – Mabry Eason, Lafayette HS
6A – Sadie Bright, South Panola HS
7A – Hannah Jo Sullivan, Brandon HS.
East Union’s Lucy Cohran, currently a sophomore, has kept the title of 2A Miss Baseball all three years since its inaugural presentation. According to the Daily Journal, this right-handed pitcher achieved two milestones in her all-star high school softball career this season. She recorded her 750th strikeout and garnered her 75th pitching win, with the East Union Lady Urchins’ (10-0) Division 1-2A victory over the Lady Wildcats of Walnut High School.
High school pitching ace Sadie Bright of South Panola High School is also a repeat winner of 6A Miss Softball. After last year’s award was announced, Sadie’s coach agreed that it was a well-deserved honor.
“Sadie is one of the hardest working players I have coached,” said Tigers head coach Ashleigh Hicks. “She is the perfect example of a teammate. I am blessed to be able to have a front-row seat and watch all that she will accomplish on and off the field.”
The 2025 Mr. Baseball winners, by high school (HS) classification are:
1A – Jon Grey Morrison, West Union HS
2A – Landon Harmon, East Union HS
3A – Brody Thompson, Mooreville HS
4A – Jacob & JoJo Parker, Purvis HS
5A – Griffin Enis, Corinth HS
6A – Baylor Roberts, Saltillo HS
7A – Talon Haley, Lewisburg HS.
Landon Harmon, the senior phenom pitcher from East Union, also won the title as 2A Mr. Baseball in 2024. Besides his consistent 95-98 mph pitching, Harmon has his fair share of home runs this season, with a .560 batting average. And any day he is on the mound, the MLB scouts follow to see if he can exceed his record of 50+ strikeouts.
Although JoJo Parker previously captured the 4A Mr. Baseball title in 2023, he shares the spotlight this year with his twin brother Jacob, a first-ever in the Mr. Baseball awards. Both seniors are committed to Mississippi State, and this talented duo brings some heavy hitting and pitching to the field for the Purvis Tornadoes.
Lewisburg’s 7A Mr. Baseball, Talon Haley, is an amazing young man, on and off the field. This senior left-handed pitcher has already signed with Vanderbilt, and it’s no wonder, with a consistent velocity of 92-94/ But Talon is more than a winner; he is a warrior who never gives up. He has overcome injury, arm surgery, and CANCER. And Talon uses what he learned in those battles to encourage other players, even his opponents. Talon and the other 13 recipients of the 2025 Miss Softball and Mr. Baseball awards will be honored during a special awards ceremony at the MHSAA Conference Center on April 30, and they will be recognized during the softball and baseball state championship games in May.
