Jackson County is hosting its 17th Annual “Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day” Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 8 a.m. – Noon in the Singing River Mall Parking Lot in Gautier.
This free turn-in will allow Jackson County residents to dispose of household hazardous waste properly. Approximately 40 different types of items that are considered household hazardous waste will be accepted at this one-day event.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the event by cleaning up around their houses and property and dispose of some of their household hazardous waste. The annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day event is a community service funded by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality in cooperation with the Jackson County Board of Supervisors and Municipalities.
“Proper disposal of these chemicals and products are important to our health and our environment,” Solid Waste Director Ronda Powell says.
Rain or shine, the collection day will be held outside Singing River Mall parking lot in Gautier. There are several items that will not be accepted including: explosive or radioactive materials, PCB’s, medical or biological waste, business waste, household garbage, electronic waste or compressed cylinders. No drums or waste from businesses or contractors will be accepted either.
We are thankful to be able to hold an event this year after concerns of COVID-19 resulted in the 2020 event being cancelled. Therefore, with the safety of all in mind, we ask that residents remain in their vehicle with windows rolled up. Products should be left in their original containers, making sure they are sealed and containers should be transported in the trunk or back of a vehicle away from passengers.
TRAFFIC FLOW: Vehicles will be directed to enter from Dolphin Drive (at the West or North side of the parking lot) and will exit in the Southeast corner along Highway 90 after material is dropped off (see map).
