On Monday, November 17, 2025, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) invites Mississippians of all ages to celebrate the natural beauty of our state by participating in National Take a Hike Day on November 17, 2025. It’s the perfect opportunity for everyone to visit one of Mississippi’s State Parks and hike some of the most scenic trails in the southeastern portion of the United States. In fact, all across our state, MDWFP has the perfect spot for families and friends to come and celebrate this yearly national event that focuses on healthy exercise and the great outdoors.

Hikers can browse the official MDWFP (www.mdwfp.com) website to plan their National Take a Hike Day. Ten of Mississippi’s State Parks are even offering a guided tour that day, including:
Bob M. Dearing Natchez State Park
Tishomingo State Park
Legion State Park
Roosevelt State Park
Lake Lowndes State Park
Clark Creek State Park
Tombigbee State Park
Trace State Park
Lefleurs Bluff State Park
Wall Doxey State Park.
These guided hikes vary in length from half a mile to five miles, so be sure to prepare for whatever hike you choose to enjoy for the day. First, make sure the length of the hike and the park’s landscape are suitable for your current fitness level. Also, make sure to dress accordingly! Hiking boots or good tennis shoes are necessary, a walking stick is helpful, and layered clothing might be wise, especially considering that Mississippi temperatures can vary drastically right now. And do not forget to carry your water bottle – and even pack a healthy little snack for those kiddos to enjoy after their hike.

Most of all, do not miss out on the autumn beauty of our amazing state. Make sure to participate in this yearly day of hiking by checking out the State Park nearest to you to find out the set time for those guided hikes. Or simply head out to your favorite MDWFP hiking spot and follow the marked trails of any of Mississippi’s State Parks as you participate in National Take a Hike Day on Monday, November 17.
