One of the most common misconceptions about Mississippi is that there is very little to do here. Perhaps, our familiarity with this incredible state has caused us to be a bit blinded by how much we actually have to partake in here. No matter if it’s a seasonal event or a place you can frequent year round, Mississippi is full of different areas to explore. Here are some highlights of the state to add to your bucket list— Mississippi style!

    Red Bluff

Red Bluff is known as the “Grand Canyon of Mississippi”. Located in a community called Morgantown, right outside of Foxworth, MS, Red Bluff attracts people from all across the state. It is a marvelous sight and one of the most spectacular places in Mississippi to add to your bucket list. The fall weather makes it perfect for a weekend hike. Make sure to be careful to not tumble into the canyon!

    Festivals

Behold- we are in the season of festivals. Fall, in Mississippi, marks festival season. Towns and cities all over the state have already started celebrating the fall season. Grab a pal and go festival hopping this fall (or go alone). If you’ve never experienced a fall festival in Mississippi, you’ll want to ensure that you add this to your bucket list!

    College Sports Events

Nothing screams Mississippi fun like our college sports events. From basketball to football to baseball, Mississippians are major sports fans. There’s nothing like sitting amongst other excited people while watching and cheering for your favorite sports teams. We are currently in football season, which means that Mississippians are feeling extra competitive about their favorite college football team. Add this one to your bucket list if you haven’t already. I can assure you that it’ll be one of the most enjoyable experiences of your life.

    Christmas Parades

We’re only a couple of months short from the Christmas season, and any Mississippian can vouch for the fact that we have the best Christmas parades ever. Christmas parades are so fun, partly because of the feeling of nostalgia associated with it. Something about having candy tossed at me brings out my inner child. It’s such a wonderful experience that never gets old. If you’ve never gone, make sure you write this on your bucket list, and go this year! They’re open to the public and free of charge.

    Farmer’s Market

If you’re looking to shop local and support small businesses in your region, you’ll want to make sure you go to a farmer’s market in Mississippi. I’ve met some of the most amazing business owners who create such niche items. From skincare products to desserts, farmers markets are a great addition to your Mississippi bucket list.

A State With A lot to Offer

Mississippi is truly a special state with so much to offer and celebrate. No matter if you’re a sports fan or if you enjoy festival hopping, there is something for everyone here. If you have already enjoyed everything on this list, what is something you would add? What activity or event was your favorite?
