August is unarguably the hottest month of the year— especially when you factor in the extreme Mississippi humidity. It is easy to retreat to our homes and sit under the air conditioner—waiting for cooler days, but where is the fun in that? Below are five ways to make the rest of your summer an enjoyable experience.
Early Morning Fishing
Fishing is an excellent way to get out of the house this month. However, you want to be mindful of the time you’re embarking on your fishing trip. Plan to arrive at the fishing spot no later than 6:30 AM to 7:00 AM. This will give you time to fish before the extreme temperatures roll in.
Life is a Highway (or a Parkway)
You don’t have to venture outside of Mississippi’s borders to enjoy a nice road trip. This state has so much unexplored territory, and August is a great month to gather your family and friends (or go solo) and enjoy other regions of the state. A great starting point is the Natchez Trace Parkway.
Visit a Museum
Being inside where it’s cool and enjoying an enriching experience is a win-win opportunity. Mississippi has a myriad of museums dedicated to art, history, and more. If there are no museums in your city, check for some in the surrounding cities. Better yet— think about an interest you have and plan to visit a museum dedicated to that.
Blueberry Picking
From muffins, to cobblers, to smoothies— it’s no secret that blueberries make any dish better. Luckily for us, Mississippi has several farms to pick blueberries this summer. Bounds Blueberry Farm, located in Wiggins, is one of the most popular farms in the southern region of the state.
Slip and Slide in a Water Park
Water parks are a great way to get outside and stay cool. Whether you enjoy the thrill of the water slides or the simplicity of the lazy river, going to a water park will always be a great way to spend time outdoors in the summer.
Make the Summer an Enjoyable Experience
Summer doesn’t have to be spent wishing for cooler days. There are plenty of activities to do to enjoy the rest of this season before cooler months roll in. Of course— ensure that you take the proper precautions to stay safe (keeping up with doctor’s visits, taking medication as prescribed, staying hydrated, etc.) before engaging in any activity — especially those that are outdoors. Besides that— enjoy the rest of summer. Fall will be here before we know it.
