The humble beginnings of the University of Southern Mississippi’s (USM) Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) are full of extensive history and fond memories. Nestled 60 miles west of Mobile, Alabama and 90 miles east of New Orleans, Louisiana, the Ocean Springs-based lab is known for its resilience and coastal impact to create a sustainable Gulf Coast.

Mississippi State representatives, Starkville Habitat for Humanity officials, student volunteers and community members gathered off 16th Section Road in rural Oktibbeha County with Hubbard and her family Friday to break ground at the site that will become home for her and her brother, R.D. Coleman. Hubbard, who cares for her sibling, is a Starkville High School cafeteria worker of almost two decades, and her home is the 75th constructed in Oktibbeha County by the local Habitat chapter since 1986.

Innovative entrepreneurial ideas are being “hatched” on a daily basis at a unique Inspiration Lab within the College of Business and Economic Development at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM).

Dubbed “The Hatchery,” this extraordinary space serves as a hub to help align and connect the wealth of entrepreneurship-related resources, knowledge, and vision at the University.

Theresa Bush, assistant professor of costume design at The University of Southern Mississippi’s (USM) Theatre program, housed in the School of Performing and Visual Arts, serves as associate designer for “A Wonderful World,” a new Broadway musical about the life and loves of jazz legend Louis Armstrong, beginning its pre-Broadway performances this week in New Orleans.
