Today is February 29 and it’s Leap Day. As you know, this day comes around about every four years (more on this later). It’s been associated with a variety of ancient customs, folklore, superstitions and traditions. But other than having an extra day to your year, how much do you know about Leap Day and Leap Year?  Here are some facts about this day.

Legendary University of Southern Mississippi Baseball Coach Scott Berry was honored with presentation of Senate Resolution 6 by the Mississippi Senate on Thursday, February 22, 2024, upon his retirement at age 60, following 14 seasons at the helm of the baseball program, leading the Golden Eagles to unprecedented levels of success as the team moved to the Sun Belt Conference.

In 2012, Bryan moved to Mississippi and became an ASL instructor at Ole Miss with only 19 students. Today, Ole Miss offers a new ASL interpreting minor, and Bryan is one of four faculty teaching over 450 students.

The 8th annual Renaissance Fest will be presiding at the Hattiesburg Zoo on Feb. 24-25. The royal festival is exciting as it marks the beginning of the Spring season for the Hattiesburg Zoo and the Hub City. The weekend will be filled with events, harkening back to the Renaissance era, with something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Nothing heralds the hope of Spring in Mississippi like those beautiful yellow daffodils bravely poking their heads through the cold (often frost-laden) bare ground of the highways and byways of our state.
