It’s always a wonderful thing to see someone you know receive a high honor. It’s even better when that person is so very deserving and when the honor is bestowed by an institution that means so much to him.

The Mississippi Peanut Festival is always held the first weekend of October at Mitchell Farms on Leaf River Church Road in Collins, and it is one of the highlights of the year that Mitchell family looks forward to.

Nestled in the heart of the Pine Belt, Laurel, Mississippi, has often been overlooked, but this hidden gem in the “Magnolia State” is finally getting the attention for the many treasures found here thanks to the exposure from HGTV’s production of “Home Town.”

For the opening of a USM Honors Colloquium, the students began by learning about themselves before anything else.

The Bible is filled with stories that describe and give us a vivid image of unity. I believe there is a particular set of verses that paint this picture beautifully found in the Book of Psalms. Psalms 133:1-3 can be paraphrased to say where there is unity God commands the blessing. I’ve found it to be true that the quality of our life is not just determined by who we are, it is equally impacted by who we are in alignment with.

Forgiveness is deep inner work. Reconciliation is open, communal work. But what about restoring a person to a position of power that has abused a sacred trust?

Sarah Bailey Thomas, one of Pascagoula’s favorite daughters, was home again the evening of July 16. Before a packed crowd of over 350 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Sarah was the keynote speaker for the 27th Annual Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County Steak and Steak Dinner.
