You can summer in Europe or you can summer, right here, in Mississippi. With work and family obligations, it can be challenging to get out of the state and country for the summer. Thankfully, Mississippi has plenty of options for you to spend some time this summer.
Oxford
Oxford will always be at the top of the list of the places to visit. It was incorporated in May of 1837. The city has been home to many authors including John Grisham and Beth Ann Fennelly. The Square (downtown Oxford) looks like something straight from a Hallmark movie or a book. From sports at Ole Miss to the Square being a one-stop-shop for all of your favorite things to do, Oxford is the perfect destination to visit this summer.
Ocean Springs
Vibrant and fun, this coastal town is a must see. With a robust art community and plenty of places to shop “till you drop”, Ocean Springs ranks among the best places in Mississippi to visit this summer. Also, Ocean Springs is home to the most amazing restaurants. Go to Ocean Springs this summer for an entirely different experience. Although it’s in Mississippi, this beautiful city feels like it’s somewhere else!

Hattiesburg
Hattiesburg is another city with a beautiful, thriving art scene. It was founded in 1882 and was initially a hub for lumber transportation. To this day, Hattiesburg is still nicknamed “the Hub city”. Take this summer to go to the many museums in the city. One of the most popular museums, in Hattiesburg, is the Pocket Museum. If you love flea markets, you’ll love spending time at the Lucky Rabbit. Additionally, the farmers markets in Hattiesburg are amazing and full of amazing baked goods and items that you wouldn’t find elsewhere.
Natchez
Home to the most antebellum homes, Natchez is a popular destination with many attractions including the beautiful antebellum homes and many museums. Natchez is the oldest city in Mississippi. If you’re looking for a city that’s full of history to spend time this summer, Natchez is the place to take your summer road trip!
Madison
Listed as one of the best places to live in Mississippi, Madison is definitely a top contender for cities to spend time this summer. Pick up a souvenir at the Pickenpaugh Pottery, which features pottery made locally. Besides it being a wonderful place to live, did you know that this city was named after the famous James Madison?
Foxworth
If you have family or friends in this area, swing by for a short stay in Foxworth. Foxworth is named after Frank W. Foxworth who helped settle the small town after moving from across Pearl River. Visit Red Bluff (known as Mississippi’s own Grand Canyon) in Morgantown and grab a snowball from Cha-cha’s on your way out! Foxworth is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a slower, more quiet, small town feeling this summer.
Bay St. Louis
Another coastal town in Mississippi, Bay St. Louis is a quaint town with the sweetest people. This coastal favorite was incorporated as Shieldsborough in 1812 then to Bay St. Louis in 1882. You can go on a cruise and visit the Alice Moseley Folk Art Museum. The Antique Maison is another popular attraction.
