Stone County families looking for meals for children during summer break can use a no-cost meal program at Stone County Library beginning this week.
The library will serve meals to children 18 and younger from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during June and July.
The program begins as students are out of school for the summer, when organizers say some families may need help replacing meals children normally receive during the school year. Stone County Library is offering the meals through the Mississippi Summer Food Service Program in partnership with Feeding the Gulf Coast.
Stone County Librarian Sally Parker said the library has worked with Feeding the Gulf Coast for at least 10 years to support children in the county during summer break.
“We have partnered with Feeding the Gulf Coast for at least 10 years, and we do that to help children in Stone County and ensure they have a meal during the summer,” Parker said. “We want to make sure no one goes hungry.”
Parker said the library hopes to continue offering the meals as long as the partnership continues.
