Lumberton businesses and residents are showing their Panther Pride through a new community decorating contest leading up to Lumberton High School’s homecoming.
The 2026 Panther Spirit Contest combines school spirit with community involvement, inviting homes, businesses and organizations to decorate in support of the Lumberton Panthers.
Participants submit a photo of their decorations, and anonymous judges will select a Panther Champion.
The winner will receive a Panther Champion trophy engraved with their name, along with a bundle of prizes donated by local stores and restaurants.
Macayle Taylor, who came up with the idea for the contest, said the goal is to show support for students at Lumberton High School.
“I hope that it shows the students and the children in our schools that they’ve got a whole community behind them,” Taylor said.
Taylor said the idea was inspired by Christmas decorating contests, but with a focus on Panther spirit. The contest currently has about four or five participants, but organizers hope to see 20 to 30 people take part.
Taylor said she hopes the event becomes an annual tradition and provides opportunities to support local businesses.
“The more people and events we have come through the community, the better for our local businesses and our community,” Taylor said.
The contest runs through Oct. 2, with the winner scheduled to be announced Oct. 3.
