Both the Bay High boys and the St. Patrick girls captured state soccer championship recently.
In Class 4A, the Bay High Tigers earned their second overall state title and first state championship since 2012 a 2-0 win over North Pontotoc. Aiden Boudro had a goal for the Tigers in the first half and Bryton Dupuy added the only other goal in the game in the second half in the winning effort.
Boudro was named the Most Valuable Player of the title tilt. The Tigers finished the season with a 19-4-2 record.
Bay High slipped past longtime rival Pass Christian 2-1 in the Class 4A South State championship 2-1 and picked up close wins over Sumrall and Stone in early-round state playoff action en route to the win.
In Class I girls’ play, the St. Patrick Lady Irish completely dominated Tupelo Christian 6-0 to easily cruise to the state championship. Linda Mustered and freshman Bella Jordan each delivered a pair of goals apiece in the winning effort for SPHS, and the junior Mustered was named Most Valuable Player of the contest for her efforts on the pitch.
Haylie Alvarez and Mollie Hebert added the other two goals for SPHS, to conclude the scoring in the six-goal white-wash, as St. Patrick finished an impressive 18-1 on the season and brought the state crown home.
In addition to the St. Patrick girls and the Bay High boys, the Long Beach boys also won the state championship in Class 5A with a 1-0 win over Lafayette as well on Saturday.
Also, while a trio of squads from the “Southern Six” captured state soccer championships three others fell in their respective clashes for the crown.
West Lauderdale won the girls’ Class 4A state championship for the fifth time in the past eight years with a 5-0 spanking of Stone at Brandon High on Saturday.
The Lady Knights got an outstanding performance from Kristen Phillips and Bailee Fairley in the win, which marks the fifth overall title in school history as well, as both registered a pair of goals apiece.
The defending Class 4A state champion Stone had a total of just four shots on goal, and they finish the season 14-5-1.
Also on Saturday, in the girls’ Class 5A state championship match, Saltillo beat West Harrison 2-0. The Lady Canes finished the season with a record of 17-5-1.
Saltillo, which finished the year at 16-3, won their first-ever soccer state title in school history.
And finally, the 2022-2023 prep soccer season in the state of Mississippi wrapped up Monday night in Ridgeland as the Clinton girls beat Gulfport 1-0 in the Class 6A state finals.
The Lady Arrows ended a 26-year drought with the win in the title tilt.
The crown is Clinton’s second in school history for the girls and first since 1997. The Lady Admirals were seeking their third 6A state title in the last four seasons but instead finished the season at 19-2-2 and took just five shots on goal in the state championship match.
