Visiting Gulfport went to Lyman and swept Harrison Central in a pair of games Friday night, while the Moss Point boys got a big road win as well.
In Region 8-6A play, the Admirals moved to 2-1 in league play and stand solidly in second place behind Biloxi after an impressive 63-36 over the Red Rebels. Kamari Mitchell finished with 15 points, E.J. Collier had 11, Keanu Patrick and Kylan Howze each had 10 while Amir Abdul-Rauf added nine points to the winning effort as fifth-ranked GHS moved to 19-4 overall with the win.
The Red Rebels stand an even 2-2 in league play.
Not to be outdone, the Lady Admirals remained atop the region race at 3-0 with a 54-45 decision over the HCHS girls. Saniah Price scored 15 points to lead GHS, while twin sisters Maddie Odell and Micah O’Dell added 13 and 10 points apiece, respectively, to the winning cause for the Lady Admirals.
The HCHS girls fell to 0-4 in region action.
Elsewhere, the Biloxi Lady Indians fell to Davidson High on the road in Mobile, Ala., Friday night 41-38 to fall to 18-5 on the year. Davidson stands 20-4. The Lady Warriors are ranked sixth overall in the Alabama Sportswriters Association Class 6A Poll.
The top-ranked Biloxi boys beat Davidson 66-47 as the Indians moved to 17-2 on the season with the win.
Meanwhile, in Pass Christian on Friday night, the Moss Point Tigers pulled into a first-place tie in Region 8-4A with the home-standing Pirates with a big 57-47 win. Both the Tigers and the Pirates now stand 5-1 in the league.
Moss Point standout Kedrick Osby was doubled and even triple-teamed most of the night, but his Tiger teammates rose to the challenge as Quaeysean Taylor scored 14 points to lead the Tigers while Alejandro Montalvo added 12 points and both Javaris Johnson and Osby chipped in 11 points apiece to the winning effort while Jujuan Nettles added nine points as MPHS handed PCHS its first league loss of the season.
The Lady Pirates, however, maintained their perfect region mark moving to 6-0 with a 48-26 win over the Lady Tigers. The PCHS girls sit comfortably atop the region standings, while the MPHS girls dropped to 0-6 in league play.
In Region 8-3A action Friday night, the St. Patrick boys suffered their first league loss of the season falling to Jefferson Davis County 60-54. The loss drops the Fighting Irish to 17-6 overall and 5-1 in region play. St. Patrick defeated Jefferson Davis County 73-54 on the road two weeks ago.
The JDC girls remained unbeaten in league play at 6-0 with a 50-36 win over the SPHS girls.
