This couldn’t be more true for Louise Smith, Mississippi Teacher of the Year, now among five educators who will be presented with the Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence in May of 2024. The Horace Mann Award is one of public education’s top honors.

In Memoriam: Remembering Raymond Tanner

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Raymond Tanner, a beloved figure in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College community, who passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 74.

Did you know that October 22 is International Stuttering Awareness Day? Roughly 1% of the adult population stutters. Emily Blunt, Rowan Atkinson (also known as “Mr. Bean”), and Ed Sheeran are among this percentage. 

Pascagoula native, Wes Dannreuther released his second novel, South Toward Horn, at the end of September. Although it’s not a sequel to his first book, Horn Island Dream, both books explore the mystique of the islands  of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Daniel Brown was kicker for Mississippi State University in the 1970s, but he has always been a storyteller. Brown is now a published children’s author, known for various speaking engagements across the United States, and a radio talk show host in Orlando, Florida.

On September 21, the Moss Point Sports Hall of Fame inducted its inaugural class with a gala event at Pelican Landing. What a night it was, with 21 of the finest athletes from the River City having their moment before a crowd of almost 300.
