PAY IT FORWARD FRIDAY: “I’ve been so blessed to be able to serve. I do wear many different hats, but it’s easy to wear them when you enjoy what you’re doing.”
“Especially as adults, we are spending so much time on phones or computers and it is really important to have screen-free time. Kids and parents don’t spend a lot of time outdoors, meaning we don’t get to use our senses to explore. Now we feel like the world has changed, and we can’t let kids out of our site, but this is such an amazing place to grow up because there’s so many different habitats and it is always changing.”
“That first day 20 people came for lunch, and we though that was a lot. Now we serve up to 250 meals a day.”
“Ms. Young is an amazing kindergarten teacher at Gautier Elementary. She brings passion and creativity to the classroom every single day, and goes out of her way to keep students and parents engaged. Her lessons are fun and interactive. Her students clearly love her, and she’s making a difference in these young people’s lives by establishing the foundation they’ll need to be successful learners for the rest of their lives. Mrs. Young rocks!”
“Susan is incredibly active in the community. Not only is she the principal of Magnolia Middle School in Moss Point, but she takes on additional community projects through her volunteerism with Moss Point Active Citizens (MPAC). One of her most recent efforts was organizing the 25th annual Deborah Washington Memorial Soap Box Derby.”
“Mr. Rick is an amazing educator. He has worked for many years dedicated to teaching the next generation about the habitats of the Grand Bay NERR, watersheds and water quality, and environmental stewardship. Mr. Rick has taught thousands of students in his years as a teacher, and inspired many young minds to think scientifically, and to care about their local community and habitats. We often have students tell us how they want to grow up to be educators because of Mr. Rick.”
