JACKSON COUNTY, MS __ The Oceans Springs Municipal Library is finally reopening its doors to the public on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 9 am! The library underwent a 1.6M renovation, with a new roof and HVAC system, fresh paint, new carpet and tile, LED lights, and a new circulation/information desk. What’s even more exciting is the addition of a new maker space, perfect for unleashing creativity and innovation. The public restrooms have also been redesigned to ensure additional ADA accessibility, so everyone can enjoy the library’s services.
The City of Ocean Springs contributed $30,000.00 towards the cost of the roof replacement from insurance proceeds for damage suffered during Hurricane Zeta in October 2020. The remaining funding for the project came from the Jackson County Board of Supervisors, who played a crucial role in ensuring the project’s success. The project was completed in 287 days, thanks to the hard work and dedication of architect Hoppy Allred, AIA of Allred Stolarski Architects, PA, and project contractor Dan Hensarling, Inc., and a committed JGRLS library team.
While the library will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting in the future to celebrate the renovation’s success, patrons can already take advantage of the website to reserve or renew books, find electronic resources, research databases, and access free learning platforms. For any other questions, patrons can always call the library at 228-875-1193. We hope to see you soon at the Oceans Springs Municipal Library!
