Mississippi’s high school basketball season is quickly drawing to a close, with Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) quarterfinal rounds of championship play taking place this week at various collegiate venues throughout the state.

For boys’ and girl’s teams alike, this marks the third of five rounds of championship basketball competition in each of the MHSAA classifications, 1A through 7A. But the slate of high school teams is growing more elite as the weeks go by, with only eight teams left in each quest for the gold.

These are the high school matchups for this week’s MHSAA quarterfinal games:

Taylorsville v. McAdams Shaw v. Velma Jackson

Wheeler v. Thrasher Coffeeville v. Biggersville

Simmons v. Lumberton Simmons v. East Marion

At this point in the statewide competition, it is interesting to note that 19 high schools are carrying boys’ and girls’ teams to the playoffs. It is also of interest that 8 of the Top 10 male high school players from the class of 2025 (per the Mississippi Hoop Report) will be participating in these third-round games. In contrast, only 3 of the MaxPreps’ Top 10 female high school basketball players are still in quarterfinal play.

These highly touted athletes and their teammates account for just a few of the 112 Mississippi basketball teams still competing for the coveted title of MHSAA 2025 State Champion. So, don’t miss out on the chance to watch talented young athletes from across our state as they play some great high school basketball this week.

For more information on the dates, times, and locations of each of these high school basketball matchups, view the current brackets (1A-7A boys and girls) at: https://www.misshsaa.com/basketball/.
