Hospital lauded for better-than-expected outcomes in total knee replacement procedures

Garden Park Medical Center is 5-star rated for total knee replacement outcomes according to a study released by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. A 5-star rating indicates that clinical outcomes for Garden Park are statistically significantly better than expected when performing this procedure.

“We are thrilled with this recognition – it validates that our physicians and staff are providing outstanding care and always putting our patients and their health first,” said Randy Rogers, Garden Park CEO. “We have worked hard to grow our orthopedic service line by recently adding hand surgery and sports medicine capabilities. This recognition shows that we’re not just growing – we’re growing the right way.

“I remain exceedingly proud of the work we’re doing and even prouder of the skilled, compassionate teams who are doing it.”

This achievement is part of new findings and data featured in the Healthgrades 2020 Report to the Nation. The new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally. Variation in care has a significant impact on health outcomes.

For example, from 2016 through 2018, if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to hospitals receiving 5 stars as a group, then on average 220,019 lives could potentially have been saved and 149,403 in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.*

“Consumers have many choices when it comes to choosing a hospital, and the choice can be a matter of life and death,” said Brad Bowman, chief medical officer at Healthgrades. “The hospitals that have been recognized as 5-star rated for specific procedures and conditions stand out above the rest for the ongoing dedication and commitment to providing exceptional care to their patients.”

Just last year, Garden Park was recognized by Healthgrades as a 5-star rated hospital for total hip replacement outcomes. Garden Park also became the first hospital in the state of Mississippi to earn the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification, a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.
