    Pascagoula, MS__All branches will also close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, and will remain closed on Thursday, January 1, 2026 through Saturday, January 3 in observance of New Year’s Day. However, you can still return your books via the book drops during this time. Also, all online services, including renewals, holds, and e-services for cardholders, will continue to function as usual.     Regional Libraries Closed for MLK Holiday

    Pascagoula, MS__All branches of the Jackson-George Regional Library System will be closed on Monday, January 19, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

    Although the physical branches will be closed, book drops will remain available for returning items. Patrons can continue to access a variety of online services, including renewals, placing holds, and free digital resources, by visiting our website at www.jgrls.org.
    Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, January 20.

    Fall in Love with Your Next Favorite Book at East Central Public Library

    East Central, MS —East Central Public Library invites readers to a fun and fast-paced event, “Speed Dating…with a Book!”, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This playful program lets participants sample a variety of surprise reads in quick rounds; no awkward small talk required.

    Readers will rotate through books, discovering new genres and authors until they find a perfect match straight from the stacks. Participants can also enter a giveaway for a chance to win a book.     East Central Public Library Goes “Nuts” for National Squirrel Appreciation Day

    East Central, MS —East Central Public Library invites the community to celebrate National Squirrel Appreciation Day with a creative, hands-on program on Wednesday, January 21, at 10:00 a.m.

    During “We’re Getting Nutty for Squirrels,” participants of all ages will paint their own flexible wooden squirrel, letting their creativity run wild with color. No live animals are involved, just plenty of artistic fun.

    Space is limited, and advance sign-up is required. Interested participants may call the library or register at the front desk. Since painting can get messy, attendees are encouraged to dress accordingly.

    ☕ “Teatime with Ms. Tammy” Every Thursday at East Central Public Library

    East Central Public Library Invites Families to Join “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” Challenge

    HURLEY, MS – The East Central Public Library is excited to launch the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading in young children. This free, year-round challenge encourages families to read together and track their progress—one book at a time.

    The program is open to children from birth to age 5. Even repeated books count, and families can earn a small prize for every 100 books read. After reaching the 1,000-book milestone, participants will receive a special prize to celebrate their achievement.

    Sign-ups begin this September at East Central Public Library. “Reading with your child every day builds vocabulary, strengthens bonds, and lays the foundation for future learning,” said Lynn Rainey, branch manager.

    Taking place on Monday, January 20, from 12:00–6:00 p.m., this drop-in style program allows attendees to create custom cards using a variety of colors, stamps, and decorative designs. Whether making stationery for personal use, special occasions, or just for fun, participants will leave with unique creations ready to use or share.
