April is National Volunteer Month. It is observed as a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of volunteers and encourage more people to get involved in their communities. It is also a time to appreciate the work of those who dedicate their time and skills to various causes while highlighting the positive impact of volunteerism.
Chevron Pascagoula actively volunteers as part of its commitment to community support and corporate responsibility. The company emphasizes partnerships that enhance social well-being and economic development and encourages its employees to participate in various volunteer initiatives.
Did you know that Chevron Pascagoula Refinery employees have generously dedicated 3,135 hours to volunteering with local nonprofits this year? This significant contribution has left a tangible mark on the Coastal community, with visible results at Bennet Bayou in Moss Point. Chevron has adopted a piece of property on Bennet Bayou by partnering with the Land Trust. Employees work tirelessly on conservation projects, maintaining the property’s beauty and tranquility for the public. In February, Chevron employees planted 70 new trees, a testament to environmental commitment.
“Our employees’ dedication to service not only strengthens the community, but also reflects core values of our company. We hope to improve the communities in which we operate by being a responsible and engaged corporate citizen and a neighbor of choice.” ~Tim Potter, Pascagoula Refinery Director
Chevron Pascagoula is proud to be involved in a wide range of diverse and meaningful volunteer initiatives. From the Pascagoula River Audubon Center to the Boys & Girls Club of Jackson County, from CASA of Southeast Mississippi to Moss Point Active Citizens, we are committed to making a difference in every corner of our community. Our partnerships with The Salvation Army, United Way of Jackson, George and Greene Counties, and Fab Lab Jackson County further demonstrate our dedication to diverse causes.
At Chevron, employees believe personal commitment drives community change. They demonstrate this belief by contributing significantly, including their involvement with the United Way for Jackson and George Counties. Their financial contributions and service on the United Way Allocation Committee are integral to determining funding distributions to affiliated organizations, making them a valued part of our community’s philanthropic efforts.
Chevron volunteers also participate in health-related initiatives such as the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, where they help install smoke alarms in high-risk neighborhoods and educate residents about fire safety. Additionally, employees train local childcare providers in CPR, providing essential skills that enhance community safety.
The refinery supports programs to combat childhood obesity through initiatives like the MS Gulf Coast Youth Health Coalition’s Childhood Obesity Initiative. Employees engage with local schools and communities to promote healthy eating habits among children.
Chevron Pascagoula collaborates with organizations like the National Audubon Society and The Nature Conservancy to promote environmental education and conservation efforts. Employees volunteer for clean-up activities and data collection projects that benefit local ecosystems.
Through Project Lead The Way (PLTW), Chevron has expanded STEM opportunities in local schools. Refinery engineers volunteer as classroom mentors, helping students develop problem-solving skills relevant to real-world challenges.
Employees also participate in community events, such as fundraising walks for health organizations like the American Heart Association, demonstrating their commitment to improving community health outcomes.
Through its vast volunteer efforts, Chevron Pascagoula fosters a sense of community among its employees while addressing critical local needs. These efforts give new meaning to the saying “lift where you stand” as Chevron Pascagoula pours into the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s present and future.
