High school seniors are invited to attend the Presidential Reception for Emerging Coast Scholars on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Hospitality Resort Management Center in Biloxi. The event will highlight the new Mississippi Gulf Coast Emerging Scholars Partnership and give students and their parents information about scholarships and honors programs.

Pass Christian artist John Walrod, known in the art community as just “Walrod,” explores the steampunk genre in the medium of 3-D assemblage sculptures in his Steampunk Curiosities exhibit on display at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Jefferson Davis Campus Fine Art Gallery. The exhibit runs November 4 – December 5, with a closing reception on November 21 from noon to 1 p.m. Steampunk attire is welcome.

The Fannie Lou Hamer Cancer Foundation (FLHCF) is closing out 2019’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a major announcement — the historic groundbreaking for its state-of-the-art headquarters facility. The Ruleville-based non-profit will host a Groundbreaking Ceremony, commemorating the beginning of Phase I for the construction of its 10,000-square-foot headquarters, Thursday, Oct. 31

Courtney Poole and Casey Marie Floyd, two volunteers on the beautification committee at Resurrection Catholic Elementary School, decided that the bathrooms at the school needed some extra love and beautification, so after viewing ideas on Pinterest, they were inspired and pitched their idea to Principal Frederic who happily agreed. And then the fun began.

Three sixth graders from Resurrection Catholic Elementary School wanted to do something nice for someone in the community and found a very worthy recipient — baby Brooklyn, a two-year-old child from Gautier who was diagnosed with DIPG, an inoperable brain tumor.

With a goal of constructing a new building to provide the more than 1,700 student veterans, service members and their families with a home of their own on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus that is commensurate with the honor of which they are so deserving, the USM Foundation announces a $2.4 million fundraising initiative to make the facility a reality.
