As part of the university’s Veterans Day observance, Mississippi State on Nov. 11, dedicated a new U.S. flag retirement box at its G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans at Nusz Hall.

The 41st Army Band will feature an hour of patriotic music beginning at 1 p.m. prior to the program—which features remarks by MSU President Mark E. Keenum—and play during the ceremony that honors veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice. The band is the musical ambassador for Mississippi Army National Guard.

For the past 51 years, Vardaman, Mississippi, has celebrated its annual Sweet Potato Festival with a time of food, fun, and fellowship. But it’s so much more than that. 

At its most recent board meeting, the Mississippi Main Street Association (MMSA) Board of Directors approved the acceptance of one new Designated Main Street Community and three Network Main Street Communities. 

Pass Christian has been approved as a new Designated Main Street Community, and Brandon, Magee, and Olive Branch have been approved to move forward as Network Members.

What is now Tupelo, MS, was once the Homeland of the Chickasaw people. The Chickasaw Nation, with a population of about 2000, lived on a small natural prairie near Tupelo, now called the Chickasaw Old Fields.

This weekend, students from Union County Schools are excited to present their Fall musical at Magnolia Theatre in New Albany. “High School Musical on Stage!” is based on the 2006 Disney Channel movie, and the storyline of this beloved musical follows Troy, Gabriella, and other students of the fictional East High Wildcats.
