Mississippi Power is commemorating its centennial on Jan. 1 after spending the last century powering progress across the state. The company’s commitment to safety, service, reliability and innovation has brightened and strengthened communities since 1925.

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, under the leadership of Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben, is the only federally recognized tribe in the State of Mississippi. With over 11,000 members, Choctaw lands cover over 35,000 acres in 10 counties. The tribe provides permanent, full-time jobs for over 5,000 Tribal Members and non-Indian employees and is a major contributor to the state’s economy.

The Chevron Pascagoula Refinery partnered with DonorsChoose to gift every certified teacher in the Moss Point School District $150 in DonorsChoose funding for classroom supplies and projects. The gift is a token of appreciation for all that teachers do to impact students’ lives. Chevron recognizes their dedication and commitment to education and the role they play in shaping our community’s future leaders.
 

Mississippi Power’s Economic Development Propels Program is an initiative designed to help communities across Southeast Mississippi become more proactive and competitive in securing economic development projects.

Fifty years ago, the idea for a rose garden on The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Hattiesburg campus took root through the efforts of local devotees of the internationally beloved flower and support of the university’s then president, Dr. William McCain. 

Community members often want to make a difference but feel they need more means to do so. The Children’s Promise Act Tax Credit allows anyone to change lives without changing their budget. Passed by the legislature and signed by the governor in 2019, it provides a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for donations to Community Care Network – a qualified Eligible Transitional Home Organization (ETHO).  

Christmas with the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, one of the holiday season’s most festive and enjoyable events, will take place this Saturday, December 14, at the Tupelo High School Performing Arts Center.  

Eight Days of Hope (EDOH) recently celebrated its 2nd Annual Weekend of Hope in Tupelo, Mississippi. 

Based in West Jackson, the Refill Jackson Initiative (RJI)  is a nonprofit with a mission to empower young adults ages 18 to 24 to be more equipped and motivated to enter the workforce and be self-sufficient. For success in any job, workers need soft and technical skills–and RJI teaches both.

Thanks to a $7.9 million federal grant and a generous $4.5 million anonymous donation, a shared facility on The University of Southern Mississippi’s (USM) Gulf Park campus designed to expand the life-changing services offered by the DuBard School for Language Disorders and The Children’s Center for Communication and Development, will soon take shape.
