Although this month-long series of Christmas festivities started last month, it is still going strong. Join Natchez for their annual “Christmas in Natchez” celebration. This event is a great way to bring in and celebrate the holiday season with other people in the Natchez community and the state of Mississippi.
About Natchez
If you don’t know about Natchez, it is a special city located in Adams County. Holding its title as one of the oldest cities in Mississippi, it has a population of approximately 13,812 people (as of the 2022 U.S. census). Natchez kicked off its celebration with the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree, which was donated by Taco Bell in 2018. The lighting takes place the Saturday following Thanksgiving, and people from all over the city come out to witness the commencement of the holiday season.
About “Christmas in Natchez”
“Christmas in Natchez” started in 2019 and eventually claimed its non-profit status. Over the course of the last few years, it has garnered more attention, support, and overall popularity, not only in the Natchez community but statewide. While the month-long event focuses on Christmas, it also includes other holiday celebrations such as Kwanzaa and Hanukkah by featuring displays that are related to those special occasions. In addition to the displays of multiple holiday celebrations, they decorate downtown Natchez with wreaths on poles and down Silver Street, strings of lush garland extending across Main Street and Franklin Street, both interior and exterior lighting (the interior lighting is enjoyed year-round and the exterior lighting is placed within the garlands for Memorial Park).
Every year, the holiday activities bring out an abundance of people downtown to celebrate Christmas and participate in the festivities. These activities range from the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with their friends, welcoming the children for pictures at Home Bank, to a North Pole playground full of rides and various activities for the children to enjoy. In addition to this, some amazing food vendors line the street, filling downtown Natchez with mouth-watering aromas.
Sharing is Caring
The generosity of the locals has helped “Christmas in Natchez” continue its expansion. Each year, they add an additional display or event to their lineup. Throughout the last few years, they’ve included Caroling in the Park and a new Kwanzaa display with huge displays that can be used for taking pictures.
