The 13th Annual Historic Cemetery Tour, coordinated by the Jackson County Historical and Genealogical Society, will take place at the Krebs Cemetery in Pascagoula on Thursday, Oct 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. As in the past, historical figures from the area will be portrayed by local actors, and the La Pointe-Krebs Museum will be available for viewing.
This year’s edition will include the following scenes:
- Hugo and Marie Krebs
- Juan Baptiste Delmas, Oliver Pollock, and Lieutenant Nicolas Bosclair
- Louis Augustine Krebs, Marie Louise Krebs DuPont, John Baptiste DuPont, and Marie Ely
- George Farragut and Elizabeth Farragut DuPont
There will also be musical entertainment provided by local talent Rogena Woods Mitchell, plus roving characters in period costumes interacting with tour goers.
“I have been fortunate to be involved with all our cemetery tours over these years,” said Richard Lucas, who will portray Major Farragut at the event. “We are all very proud that the Historical and Genealogical Society has had the forethought to create this wonderful event and, along with our other sponsors, to sustain the tour’s excellence all these years. Our coordinators, Rene’ Hague in the beginning and now Dan and Michele Lee, have put in tons of work to make this become a success, and should be accorded special thanks.
“Each year the tour continues to grow in excellence as a signal cultural event for our community, something that many area residents look to with great anticipation. We look forward to another big crowd coming Thursday night to enjoy the evening and learn about local culture and heritage.”
The Historic Cemetery Tour is free of charge, with all ages encouraged to attend. The Krebs Cemetery and LaPointe-Krebs home will be ready and waiting for visitors Thursday night at 5:30.
