High school seniors are invited to attend the Presidential Reception for Emerging Coast Scholars on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Hospitality Resort Management Center in Biloxi. The event will highlight the new Mississippi Gulf Coast Emerging Scholars Partnership and give students and their parents information about scholarships and honors programs.

A love of books and reading has set the stage for local college student Marianna French to find her career passion in library science. Working in the library field and reading a lot has opened the doors for her to blog about books she likes and doesn’t like with the hopes of promoting the love of reading to those who may see it more as a chore. Biloxi Shuckers Corporate Partnerships Coordinator Stephanie Chapman has been awarded the Women in Baseball Leadership Scholarship, one of four scholarship recipients among female executives in Minor League Baseball. Chapman was selected for the scholarship from a pool of female executives from various levels and leagues across Minor League Baseball. 

Since 1994, the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum has given guests a chance to ride a replica of a historic schooner and be a part of the annual Christmas on the Water Boat Parade in Biloxi in December. This is a great opportunity to board a decorative Biloxi schooner and participate in the holiday parade rather than just watching it from the shore.

This year’s class of 18 seniors, who suffered several heartbreaking moments through back-to-back ugly seasons of 3-8 and 1-10, have righted the ship by finishing in third place in Region 4-5A and for the first time are headed to the postseason Friday night to face Laurel.
