The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music is proud to announce that its vocal a cappella group, Spirit of Southern (SOS), recently won the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) South Quarterfinal in Biloxi, advancing to the semifinal round set for March 28 in Durham, North Carolina.

Easter falls on the first weekend of April this year, on Sunday, April 5, 2026, to be exact. For many Mississippians, Easter is a time to gather with friends and families to celebrate the day with good food and family fun.

The community is invited to experience the extraordinary musical talent of The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Music during two special concert evenings this February. In celebration of the school’s ongoing excellence and as part of the National Association of Schools of Music accreditation site visit, both concerts are free and open to the public.

BILOXI—Laissez les bon temps roulez! While Mardi Gras season is only celebrated between January 6 and Fat Tuesday, the celebration continues year ‘round in Biloxi with a visit to the Mardi Gras Museum.

This Saturday at 3:00 p.m., a group of Pike County performers will take the stage at the Ford Center in Oxford as part of the Mississippi Theatre Festival. The production is free and open to the public, with ASL interpreters present. What makes the performance especially meaningful, however, is who is standing under the lights.

In downtown McComb, Pike School of Art – Mississippi is steadily building something rooted in community, access, and shared creativity. Rather than operating as a traditional gallery space, Pike School of Art focuses on classes, workshops, and community-centered programming designed to bring people together through hands-on learning and conversation.

Clinton, Mississippi native, Jacob Dillard debuted at the Grand Ole Opry in November 2025 as the pedal steel guitarist with Walker Montgomery’s band. While performing during the Opry’s 100th anniversary fulfilled a lifelong dream, it provided a time to reflect on the years of hard work in Mississippi and Nashville that paved the way. Landing the opportunity to play with Walker Montgomery, who is the son of country music star John Michael Montgomery, seems serendipitous.

The first major museum exhibition devoted to the art and life of L.V. Hull opens March 20, 2026, at the Mississippi Museum of Art (MMA/the Museum). L.V. Hull: Love Is a Sensation is presented in partnership with the L.V. Hull Legacy Center (Legacy Center), a project of the Arts Foundation of Kosciusko in Kosciusko, MS. The Legacy Center, which includes Hull’s preserved home, will also open in March 2026 with a parallel exhibition and related programming.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s (USM) Graphic Design program experienced a landmark spring 2025 semester, earning a series of major recognitions and awards that highlighted the creativity, discipline and national impact of its students. From local and regional competitions to national honors and professional publications, the program continued to strengthen its reputation as a leader in design educatio
