The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music is proud to announce that its vocal a cappella group, Spirit of Southern (SOS), recently won the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) South Quarterfinal in Biloxi, advancing to the semifinal round set for March 28 in Durham, North Carolina.

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music is excited to announce the 2026 Screamin’ Eagles Guitar Festival on Saturday, March 14, in Marsh Hall. This all-day event will offer a fantastic opportunity for professionals, students and enthusiasts to come together and celebrate one of America’s most versatile and beloved instruments. The festival will include concerts, educational opportunities, raffle prizes generously provided by Music & Arts, a special coffee hour featuring music by the Southern Miss Guitar Studio and discounts provided by Mo’ Bay Beignet Co., and more.

The community is invited to experience the extraordinary musical talent of The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Music during two special concert evenings this February. In celebration of the school’s ongoing excellence and as part of the National Association of Schools of Music accreditation site visit, both concerts are free and open to the public.

Clinton, Mississippi native, Jacob Dillard debuted at the Grand Ole Opry in November 2025 as the pedal steel guitarist with Walker Montgomery’s band. While performing during the Opry’s 100th anniversary fulfilled a lifelong dream, it provided a time to reflect on the years of hard work in Mississippi and Nashville that paved the way. Landing the opportunity to play with Walker Montgomery, who is the son of country music star John Michael Montgomery, seems serendipitous.

The first major museum exhibition devoted to the art and life of L.V. Hull opens March 20, 2026, at the Mississippi Museum of Art (MMA/the Museum). L.V. Hull: Love Is a Sensation is presented in partnership with the L.V. Hull Legacy Center (Legacy Center), a project of the Arts Foundation of Kosciusko in Kosciusko, MS. The Legacy Center, which includes Hull’s preserved home, will also open in March 2026 with a parallel exhibition and related programming.
