Explore the artisans that call Mississippi their home.

In case you haven’t heard, Festival South is winding down this year. If you’re a lover of art— be it visual, literary, or performance, you’ll want to plan to attend next year. It kicked off on May 1, 2024. The final performances will be July 27. This superb, multi week  festival is the art lovers’ dream. 

Here in the Hospitality State we have been known to use some unique phrases in our everyday conversation. Some of these are self-explanatory, while others make it seem like the Sip (Mississippi) has its own language.

Attendees to the June Open Mic Poetry Night at Pacesetter Gallery enjoyed poetry inspired by original Mississippi art. Each year, the Mississippi Poetry Society selects a Mississippi artist for the cover of their Mississippi Poetry Society Journal Contest Edition. Laura Mayo, a rural artist from outside Hernando, MS, and artist at Pacesetter Gallery since its opening 2021, was selected for the 2024 cover.

The city of Oxford will soon be flooded with an abundance of beautiful artwork, creativity, and lots of great music along with a barrage of crowds at the city’s premier event of the year—the Double Decker Festival. This spring, on April 26-27, marks the 27th edition of this annual fest.

Due to recent storms causing high flood waters, the 2024 En Plein Air Paint Competition will change venues. Originally scheduled to take place at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park, the event will now be hosted at the Flowood Nature Park in Flowood, MS. The event is taking place this Saturday, April 13, 2024.

“If all of history’s musicians formed a band, Mississippi bluesmen would play lead guitar.” It’s no secret that the Magnolia State is filled with talent, but it seems to have more than its fair share of musical genius. 

To see some of the amazing talents that have hailed from Mississippi and from around the country, you’ve got to visit America at the Crossroads: The Guitar and a Changing Nation, presented by the National GUITAR Museum at the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience (The MAX) in historic downtown Meridian. 

2024 En Plein Air Competition LeFleur’s Bluff State Park includes even more artists, coming in from all parts of Mississippi for this year’s competition. This event, brought to you by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks and Pacesetter Gallery, will showcase 44 talented Mississippi artists as they paint LeFleur’s Bluff State Park competing for publication in Mississippi Wildlife magazine and cash prizes.
