We may not think of plants when we think about Christmas time; however, there are many plants that thrive in the winter months. In addition to the beloved, quintessential marker of Christmas— the Christmas tree— there are several varieties of plants to choose from. From individual flowers, to small plants to put on your desk, to large plants that sit in the corners of your home, to elegant winter themed centerpieces— the possibilities are endless. Luckily, Mississippi has plenty of places to purchase your favorite winter plants. Here are five places within the state to shop this winter.

    The Flower Mart

Located in Petal, this quaint florist has a glowing five star review for a reason. The owners and staff are attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable of all things floral. If you’re local to Petal, make sure to pay this adorable shop a visit.

    Blooms Company

This flower shop is located in Hattiesburg. The Hub City is always buzzing with locals and visitors— especially during this time of year. If you’re looking to buy flowers for your winter centerpiece, look no further than Blooms Company.

    Mostly Martha’s Floral Design

If you live in (or near Ridgeland), you may have heard of Mostly Martha’s. Besides the friendly staff, they also deliver. If you are short on time, contact them with your address, and they’ll gladly deliver.

    Rose’s Florist

Located in the Mississippi Gulf Coast, this Biloxi based florist has a 4.9 star rating. This shop offers same day delivery, which is convenient— especially during the bustle of the holiday season.

    Lolligagin Flowers and Gifts

Boasting a 5.0 star rating, Lolligagin Flowers and Gifts is one of the most popular florists in Tupelo. Their staff are known for being “very friendly and helpful” as one reviewer gushed.

What Flowers Bloom in the Winter?

Besides Christmas trees and mistletoe, there are many other flowers and plants that thrive in the winter months. If you’re looking to match the your floral centerpiece with the season, here are some floral suggestions to request for your centerpiece:

    1. Snowdrops
    2. French Tulips
    3. Calendulas
    4. Poinsettias
    5. Amaryllis

In addition to these flowers, try adding ferns, pine needles, and pine cones to your centerpieces.

Using flowers and greenery to decorate your home is one of the best ways to get creative during the Christmas season. Besides the decorative fun, it gives you a chance to learn more about plants, and doing this could introduce you to a new hobby. Lastly, choosing to go to your local florist is a wonderful way to shop locally and support small businesses, which can make a business owner’s day. What flowers and plants are you most eager to purchase this year? Let us know in the comment section of Our Mississippi Home’s Facebook page.
