From ocean adventures with miles of relaxing white sandy beaches to gazing at the views of the famed Natchez Trace Parkway, the Magnolia State is a dream destination for any vacationist.

And a bed and breakfast can allow adventurers the best of both worlds with an escape from everyday life without sacrificing amenities like a freshly prepared meal in the morning. Add in a historic setting or the Gulf Of Mexico and you’ve got the makings of an unforgettable getaway, romantic trip, or just a chance to pamper yourself with a little alone time.

These historic Mississippi bed and breakfasts offer a unique respite from ordinary day-to-day routines.

    Monmouth Historic Inn, Natchez

Set in an antebellum-era mansion dating back to the early 19th century, the Monmouth Historic Inn offers an oasis of luxury within a 26-acre garden.

“Furnished with antiques and luxurious décor, Monmouth Historic Inn is a classic beauty that promises an unforgettable stay,” says Jessica Cauthen of Visit Natchez. “Whether wandering around the stunningly manicured gardens or enjoying a meal in the award-winning restaurant, you will feel as if you’ve been transported to your very own southern oasis.”

And don’t miss the chance to explore Natchez, a 300-year-old town on the Mississippi River steeped in history.

    Fairview Inn, Jackson

This boutique hotel is in the heart of Jackson and offers dining in the Library Lounge and 1908 Provisions with menus full of delights. The gardens and spa have an abundance of treatments that will coax relaxation from weary travelers. Since it’s on the National Register of Historic Places, the Fairview exudes the rich history of Jackson.

    Chateau Blessey, Biloxi

This seaside chateau offers guests Southern hospitality with a French flair and a gourmet breakfast that’s hailed throughout the state and features local produce and seafood. Evenings can be spent watching beautiful sunsets from the porch overlooking the Gulf or strolling the in-house art gallery which features works by local artists from the Coast.

    Oak Hill Stables, Oxford

Enjoy the best of both worlds with this historic inn that’s right in the middle of 500 acres, and only five miles from Oxford’s historic Courthouse Square. This elegant hotel is frequently rented out as a venue for weddings and allows guests to stroll the acreage, enjoying one of the most romantic getaways in the Magnolia State.

    The Columns, Tunica

This popular event venue has been named the People’s Choice Bed and Breakfast for the past 11 years. Guests of the beautifully renovated turn-of-the-century mansion will appreciate the grand guest rooms, scrumptious homemade breakfasts, and a convenient and quick stroll to Tunica’s historic downtown district.

    Carroll House, Bay St. Louis

Right in the heart of Bay St. Louis, the Carroll House is known for its charming southern hospitality and cozy rooms. It’s only minutes from alluring antique shops, exquisite art galleries, upscale dining, and trendy coffee shops. The seaside chateau has amazing views of the Gulf, which can be enjoyed from the private porches in each guest room.

    Annabelle, Vicksburg

This popular inn was on Fodor’s list of the “South’s Best B and B’s” and has been voted into the top two percent of United States Bed and Breakfasts. This beautifully restored Victorian home features 13-foot ceilings, chandeliers, antiques, heirlooms, a swimming pool, and guest suites with lavish features, such as private baths with spa-inspired amenities. Guests of the Annabelle are treated to authentic southern breakfasts and personal guided tours.

    The Generals’ Quarters, Corinth

Made up of two restored Grand Victorian homes, this inn is located in the heart of downtown Corinth on Fillmore Street, which means guests are within walking distance of cozy boutiques, exquisite art galleries, trendy coffee houses, and award-winning restaurants. With verandas and gardens that surround the property, it’s easy to see why the Generals’ Quarters was named one of the “Top Ten Bed and Breakfasts” in the entire state.

Much more intimate than a hotel, a stay at a bed and breakfast, inn or chateau is a friendly, almost family-like, experience, and since Mississippi is the Hospitality State, bed and breakfasts are practically a Magnolia State specialty.
