The Mississippi Humanities Council, in partnership with Pike School of Art and the Palace Theater, will host a free screening of the award-winning documentary Natchez on Thursday, May 28, at 6 p.m. at the Palace Theater in downtown McComb.
Directed by Suzannah Herbert and produced by Darcy McKinnon, the 86-minute documentary explores the complicated history and present-day identity of Natchez, Mississippi. The film examines how the city’s tourism industry, centered around antebellum history, intersects with conversations surrounding race, memory, and the legacy of the South.
Following the screening, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion featuring local scholars, community voices, individuals involved in the film, and, at some locations, the filmmakers themselves.
The screening is part of the Mississippi Humanities Council’s statewide documentary discussion series, which aims to encourage thoughtful conversations through film and public dialogue.
The event is free and open to the public.
