The City of Moss Point joins 90 other communities across the nation in a music concert series designed to create connections celebrating the arts.
The presentation of Parker Barlow on August 22 begins a multi-year partnership with the Levitt Foundation and the Walter Anderson Museum of Art that includes high-quality live music and public art.
The Levitt AMP Music Series is a national initiative that brings free, live music to communities across the country, strengthening connections between neighbors while supporting vibrant public spaces and local economies.
Julian Rankin, strategic advisor for the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, said Moss Point was chosen for this series because of its strong connections and beautiful downtown setting.
“Moss Point was selected because of our strong history of programming and community partnerships there,” Rankin said, “combined with the opportunity to activate such a picturesque downtown landscape.”
The series is part of a national grant that includes music and a monumental public sculpture celebrating Moss Point’s history, industry, and environment that will take place at the Moss Point Parks Riverfront Park along the shores of the Escatawpa River.
“The sculpture was part of the larger grant, and it was also partially inspired by the MS Blues Trail marker and local history,” Rankin said. “This will be combined with the environmental significance of the area and its connection to the timber industry.”
The 17-foot-tall sculpture, River City Guitar, merges the community’s musical tradition with a longleaf pine, and also integrates a saw blade shape, doubling as the guitar hole and sun.
“The sculpture will help activate one of the Coast’s most stunning downtown vistas,” Rankin said.
Communities with populations under 250,000 are the target for the Levitt AMP Music Series. It also has three goals: 1. To amplify community pride and a city’s unique character; 2. Enrich lives through the power of free, live music; and, 3. To illustrate the importance of inclusive and vibrant public places.
“The Levitt AMP Music Series is about much more than concerts,” said Rankin. “It’s about creating a place where people come together, celebrate their community, support local businesses, and experience the transformative power of the arts. We are excited to partner with the City of Moss Point and Moss Point Main Street to build a tradition that will serve the Gulf Coast for years to come.”

All concerts are on Saturdays from 5 to 9 p.m. except September 19 that coincides with the Moss Point High School Homecoming festivities and features Moss Point native Daniel Stallworth.
The Levitt Foundation is joined by a number of other sponsors to provide this free, waterfront, public entertainment.
