Jackson-George Regional Library System Highlights Free Digital Resources for Homeschool and Tutoring Enrichment

Jackson & George Counties, MS— The Jackson-George Regional Library System (JGRLS) is committed to supporting students, parents, and educators with free, high-quality digital tools that serve as valuable aids for homeschoolers, tutoring sessions, and classroom instruction. From early learning to advanced research, these resources are designed to meet Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) requirements while also providing engaging enrichment opportunities.

“Our homeschool workshops have shown us how important it is for families to have access to reliable, easy-to-use resources,” said Amber Mahon, St. Martin Library Branch Manager. “Whether a parent is teaching a kindergartener or a high schooler, JGRLS offers tools that make learning accessible for all ages.”

Among the highlighted resources is Transparent Language Online, a comprehensive language-learning program that supports Mississippi students in meeting MDE’s foreign language requirements. With lessons in more than 110 languages, learners can practice vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation from home or on the go.

“Foreign language is often one of the biggest challenges for homeschool families,” noted Jeanne Damiano Assistant Director CMS/IT. “Transparent Language Online gives students the confidence to succeed with a flexible and interactive format, and parents love that it’s free with a library card.”

Students researching current events, writing essays, or preparing citations can take advantage of NewsBank, a trusted database that provides up-to-date news coverage and primary sources. The platform also offers suggested topics, making it easier for students to connect news to curriculum-based assignments.

“NewsBank has been a favorite with our families who need reliable sources for research papers,” said Jim Thompson, Ocean Springs Library Branch Manager. “It’s a great way for students to stay informed about the world while developing strong writing and critical-thinking skills.”

For younger learners, ABCmouse and Adventure Academy are available through JGRLS, offering engaging activities and games that support early childhood education and foundational skills in reading, math, science, and more.

“These programs make learning fun and interactive for children,” added Letha Boulton

Assistant Director/Branch Services, “which helps foster a love of learning from the very beginning.”

The Jackson-George Regional Library System invites families, tutors, and educators to explore these free resources today. All that’s needed is a library card, which can be obtained at any JGRLS branch.
