What Jackson County residents are grilling this holiday

PASCAGOULA—If you’re like many Americans, your Fourth of July plans include making the perfect grilled meal.
In fact, Independence Day is the most popular day of the year for grilling, when 63 percent of grill owners plan to plan to fire up their favorite outdoor cooking tool, according to a poll by the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association.
With that in mind, JaxCoHome recently polled 50 people outside Jerry Lee’s and Wayne Lee’s grocery stores in Pascagoula to ask them what foods were going on their grills this Fourth of July.
Not surprisingly, nearly half of you are going with the no-fail, classic combo of hamburgers and hotdogs to feed a hungry crowd.
The next top answer was ribs, with one out of five of you tossing a slab on the grill this holiday. They’re messy but always delicious.
Another 16 percent of you are going to be grilling the perfect steak…and probably debating with your friends and family about the perfect doneness. (Rare? Medium? Well-done?). Meanwhile, 14 percent of you will be eating chicken and loving every bite of it.
A few of you mentioned other enviable, mouth-watering menus of Conecuh sausage, grilled shrimp, smoked pork and BBQ wings.
We also want to give a shout out to those of you who said your plans involve going to someone else’s house. You can always pick up a tasty side at your favorite local grocery store to bring to the party. We won’t tell anyone that you didn’t spend all day making that delicious potato salad.
However you choose to celebrate, don’t forget to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy here in the United States and the people who defend those freedoms each and every day.
