Pass Christian artist John Walrod, known in the art community as just “Walrod,” explores the steampunk genre in the medium of 3-D assemblage sculptures in his Steampunk Curiosities exhibit on display at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Jefferson Davis Campus Fine Art Gallery. The exhibit runs November 4 – December 5, with a closing reception on November 21 from noon to 1 p.m. Steampunk attire is welcome.

YUMMY is a new annual, juried art exhibition on Sept. 26 that celebrates the pairings of color while benefiting the two art organizations sponsoring the event: Believe In Art Gulf Coast & Local Creatives. {permalink} #OurMsHome

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Jefferson Davis Food Pantry and Professional Closet on Tuesday, Sept. 17, in front of the food pantry, located in the Eula Switzer Allied Health Building. The pantry and closet will provide food and other items to students in need, along with professional attire they may need for interviews, academic competitions and other events.

Do any of these names ring a bell: True Wings, Twisted Magnolia, Mac Daddy’s Creole Kitchen, Chef in a Box, California Taco’s, Chow Me Down, Gourmet Grilled Cheese, or Charro’s Hot Tamales? They should if you are a foodie of any merit! They are all part of the food truck invasion that has hit Jackson County in the past year or so.

Its pretty easy to see how gas station food has evolved over the years, from offering junk food, coffee and maybe a biscuit for breakfast, but today’s foodies and folks on-the-go demand more.
